Okay. I didn’t want to start the morning off with this, but the Twi-Hard in me just can’t help it…did you guys SEE the preview for the new Twilight movie?! I . can’t. wait. for November. Breaking Dawn was easily the best book in the series…dying to see the movie.
How was everyone’s weekend?
Things were pretty low key here.
Spent Saturday inside while the rain came and went. Actually got into a not-so-pretty argument with my husband that resulted in some hurt feelings and both of us saying some things we didn’t mean. But, we’re okay now. We bounce back from dispute pretty quickly.
I spent Sunday feeling somewhat guilty for the things that I said to my husband. I really don’t like when we argue. It bothers me…a lot. I mean, a whole lot. We generally get along really well, and discuss most everything with one another rationally and calmly. But sometimes…things get a little too heated and I blow things a little too out of proportion. I am a bit dramatic at times. But, I guess that’s the be expected from the person who was voted Most Likely to Exaggerate in High School (and YES, I was).
While I was having my “cool down” time after we argued, I spent a few minutes browsing the confessional board on the Scary Mommy app on my iTouch. Ever taken a look at it? Or taken a look at Scary Mommy’s message board?
If you haven’t, then you should.
It’s an eye opener.
I don’t want to open up a can of judgmental worms…and that’s not at all my intention here. But, there are some really upsetting situations out there. The state of marriage, and motherhood…reading some of those confessionals makes me feel a lot less guilty about the fact that Little Man eats Cheetos and M&M’s too frequently. Or, that I let him watch TV every single morning and I never feel guilty about it. Those are the kinds of things I’ve typed into the confessional…just as my way of putting it out there and admitting to the world (albeit anonymously) that I’m not perfect.
But some of the others? The confessions about the husbands having affairs, the women using drugs and wishing horrible things on their spouses and children? The confessions about the husbands who drag their wives down and don’t support their ambitions? The husband’s (and wives) who trash one another ever chance they get?
Makes me feel like I’m a little bit more…normal. And it makes our “issues” seem a little less extreme.
And some of the things that women have typed in about their husbands, really makes me thankful that my husband and I have the kind of relationship that we do. We get frustrated. We get mad…really mad. We say things we don’t mean, and things we should say. We’ve hurt each other in the past, and I’m 110% certain that we’ll hurt each other again (more times than one) before our lives together are over.
But those kinds of problems fall short in comparison to some of the others…to some of the things that I’ve read, and seen.
Makes me thankful.
Makes me really, really thankful to be married to the kind of man that I’m married to.
He’s not perfect.
But neither am I.
We are both flawed.
We are both human.
And, we both drive each other absolutely insane 75% of the time.
But I wouldn’t change it.
Hope you guys had a great weekend. I’m off to bake my husband some brownies and greet him with a smile and a kiss when he gets home from work. That’s the least that I can do for him, in exchange for all that he does for me.
By the way, this photo has absolutely nothing to do with this post…just a snapshot I took the other day while we were out driving through the mountains. Little Man was amazed by how high up he was from the ocean.
PS-I’m also linking this post up with Monday Rewind. Make sure you join Gina over at Chic Homeschool Mama! Likewise, let me disclose that I was not paid to mention Scary Mommy’s app or website in this post. I read her blog at random and purchased her 99 cent app on my own dime.
