Great tips! I have a billion questions on how to gain readership!

I couldn’t agree more with you on not getting too big for your blog. I don’t like when I visit someone else and am made to feel inferior to them due to their numbers or their blogging time. I try to engage and answer every comment back because as a reader I appreciate that.

And your spotlight Saturday feature? Love it! Like I’ve told you before, it’s something I have thought about starting!

There were LOTS of great posts about gaining readership on the #SummerBlogSocial. I hope you found some quality stuff! And I so appreciate the comments back when I take time to visit other blogs. It’s a courtesy thing. Granted, if I had 100 comments on each post, there would be no way to respond to them all…but acknowledgment here and there is vital.

I love reading all of this advice. I have struggled with number of followers and comments, but I focus on doing it for me. It’s my place to sound off and remember things that are important to me and that’s what matters. I think just getting involved is great advice and I try to do more and more of that as time allows.

    • Courtney K. says:

I think that maintaining that mentality about blogging for YOU is important. When you get caught up in the numbers game (and we all do) you lose focus on why you started to blog in the first place. If you’re writing the content, and getting out there to visit other blogs, the readers will come!

Such great advice! The part about twitter really made me laugh – that’s so me! I’ve been avoiding twitter since it came out. The hardest part for me is the number of followers just sitting there at 2 for everybody to see and trying not to get discouraged as I keep tweeting away!

    • Courtney K. says:

LOL I remember when I started using Twitter….I felt the same way. But it really doesn’t take a long time for that number to grow. Find your favorite bloggers on Twitter and hit them up. They’ll return the follow.

  4. Danni says:

That is awesome advice. I am trying to get back into it after almost a month off. Next time I go on vacation I really need to set up a guest blog thing. So that I am still posting and not leaving my blog alone for a long period of time.

    • Courtney K. says:

Guest Blogging when you’re on vacation is a great way to bring fresh content to your readers without leaving them on the lurch. Good luck getting back in the “game.” 🙂

  5. I really enjoyed this post. Thanks for the Twitter encouragement. I joined, but have not gotten all that involved yet.

  6. Totally awesome advice. Thanks for posting it. I have a gajillion questions. I think I will email you.

i noticed when my hero was deployed and i was writting letters to him everyday my numbers were way up. I think having a purpose to your blog helps a ton. now that i write about everything I think it pushes some people away

  8. Christy says:

Great post. I use Blogger and hate when people comment but don’t include their email because I love to reply, but often can’t. So I did install Discuss and now problem solved! Lots of great advice, thanks for sharing!

  9. Shawntae says:

I love this post! You are amazing and I love your blog. The thing that bugs me is when someone leaves a comment on my blog that doesn’t say anything about my post they just say “come follow me” it’s so friggin annoying! I really try to return a ton of people’s comments but it’s really hard and expecially when they have the CAPTCHA or whatever it’s called. I hate that thing. I also hate it when a blog gets to big and then they think they are too cool to return other comments. Booo

  10. Laura says:

If I were to write this just for me it would go:

    -Actually blog
-Respond to comments in a TIMELY fashion.
    -Read other blogs
    -Comment.

Ugh – going back to work has seriously hindered all these things. I haven’t even opened my feed reader since maternity leave ended.
